Well renovation completed in Nyorrit

Als Anfang Mai mit der Sanierung des Brunnens in Nyorrit gestartet werden konnte, hatte man grosse Hoffnung, dass es wieder einmal eine normale und niederschlagsreiche Masika-Regenzeit geben wird. Mit Start der Sanierungsarbeiten hatten die Regenfälle jedoch leider abrupt aufgehört und es folgten bereits im Mai sehr heisse, trockene Wochen. Die allermeisten frisch bestellten Ackeranbauflächen mit den jungen Kulturpflanzen (wie Mais und Bohnen) trockneten unter der Gluthitze unerwartet schnell aus und in weiten Teilen des Massailandes (im Simanjiro-Distrikt in Nordtansania) zeichnet sich ein zweites Jahr in Folge ein Ernteausfall ab. Umso wichtiger ist es also, dass in den verschiedenen Dorfteilen auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Loiborsoit wenigstens die Trinkwasserversorgung längerfristig gesichert ist und so auch die Brunnensanierung in Nyorrit zeitnah abgeschlossen werden kann. Hierbei konnte ein Teil des alten baufälligen Pumpenhäuschens renoviert und erhalten bleiben und in das neu errichtete Pumpenhaus integriert werden, wo auch der alte Dieselgenerator neu installiert wurde. Dieser kommt jeweils zum Einsatz, wenn die Stromversorgung (vom Dorf Lolkisale in Richtung Emboret) unterbrochen sein sollte. Zusätzlich wurde ein eigenes Brunnenwärterhäuschen inkl. kleiner Werkstatt gebaut. Letzte Woche konnten alle zuvor in der Stadt Arusha bestellten Metallfenster und Türen angeliefert und, als letzte Etappe, an den beiden neuen Gebäuden eingebaut werden. Im Anschluss konnten die Aussenputz-Arbeiten beendet werden. Zuvor konnten bereits alle korrodierten Wasserleitungen ausgetauscht werden. Die Massai-Bevölkerung in Nyorrit ist erfreut, dass die Sanierung des Brunnens in der geplanten Zeit abgeschlossen werden konnte. Besonders erfreulich ist für die Massaifrauen, dass die Trinkwasser-Bezugsstation um weitere 6 Wasserhahnen erweitert wurde. Bislang hatten sich an den beiden einzig verfügbaren Wasserhahnen, vor allem während der Trockenzeit, grosse Warteschlangen gebildet. Die Massaifrauen mussten demnach oft stundenlang warten, bis sie ihren täglichen Bedarf an Wasser in Kanister abfüllen und nach Hause bringen konnten. In Zusammenhang mit der Sanierung hatte man auch über Möglichkeiten nachgedacht, um den Wasserspeicher beim Brunnen zu erweitern und wollte zwischenzeitlich als Lösung weitere 5.000-Liter Wassertanks installieren (mit letzten finanziellen Mitteln aus den geplanten gemeinnützigen Projekten 2022/23 – 2. Teil). Letzte Woche logierten Projektpartner von Atlas Copco (Belgien) in unserem Gästehaus in Loiborsoit, um u.a. die Wasserprojekte an der Schule in Lemooti und anderen Primarschulen auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Loiborsoit zu inspizierten. Unsere Besucher und Projektpartner konnten nun für den Brunnen in Nyorrit zugleich eine bessere Lösung vorschlagen und hierfür erfreulicherweise die Finanzierung zum Bau einer eigenen Zisterne aus Zement in Aussicht stellen. Im Gegenzug können nun die restlichen Wassertanks z.B. beim neuen Brunnen in Loolosesia oder an der Schule und bei der nahegelegen Buschklinik in Lemooti installiert und zum Sammeln von Regenwasser verwendet werden…
Well renovation completed in Nyorrit
When the renovation of the well in Nyorrit started at the beginning of May, there was great hope that there would be a normal and Masika rainy season. Unfortunately, when the renovation work started, the rain stopped abruptly and very hot and dry weeks followed. The vast majority of freshly tilled arable land with young crops (such as corn and beans) dried out unexpectedly quickly under the scorching heat and in large parts of Maasai country (in the Simanjiro district in northern Tanzania). There are signs of a crop failure for the second year in a row. It is therefore even more important that in the various parts of the village in the municipality of Loiborsoit at least the drinking water supply is secured in the long term and that the well renovation in Nyorrit can be completed promptly. A part of the old, dilapidated pump house could be renovated and preserved and integrated into the newly built pump house, where the old diesel generator was also reinstalled. This is used whenever the power supply (from the village of Lolkisale in the direction of Emboret) should be interrupted. In addition, a separate well keeper’s cottage including a small workshop was built. Last week all the metal windows and doors were delivered and, as the last stage, installed in the two new buildings. The exterior plastering work was then completed. All the corroded water pipes were replaced. The Maasai population in Nyorrit is pleased that the rehabilitation of the well was completed on schedule. It is particularly pleasing for the Maasai women that the drinking water supply station has been expanded by 6 additional water taps. Until now, large queues had formed at the only two taps available, especially during the dry season. The Maasai women often had to wait for hours before they could fill their daily water needs into canisters and take them home. In connection with the renovation, options to expand the water reservoir at the well were also considered and the intention was to install another 5,000-liter water tank (with the last financial resources from the planned charitable projects 2022/23 – 2nd part). Last week, project partners from Atlas Copco (Belgium) stayed at our guest house in Loiborsoit to inspect, among other things, the water projects at the school in Lemooti and other primary schools in the Loiborsoit municipality. Our visitors and project partners were now able to propose a better solution for the well in Nyorrit and fortunately offered the prospect of financing for the construction of a concrete cistern. In return, the remaining water tanks can now be installed e.g. at the new well in Loolosesia or at the school and nearby bush clinic in Lemooti and used there to collect and store rainwater…
