Young Maasai warriors are happy about the cultural funding project

Es ist für unser Verein nach wie vor sehr wichtig, dass auch dem Kulturförderungsprojekt entsprechende Beachtung geschenkt wird. Bereits im letzten Jahr und insbesondere ab Januar 2024 gab es seitens Jungkriegern (Moranis) der Nyangulo-Altersklasse eine enorm grosse Nachfrage, die Haare nach Massai-Tradition flechten zu lassen. Wegen der grossen Nachfrage haben wir am Hauptsitz von ENKAINA-E-RETOTO in Loiborsoit zeitweise zwei bis drei Massai-Frisöre angestellt, welche gegen ein kleines Entgelt den Jungkriegern vor Ort eine entsprechende Frisur verpassen konnten. Diese aufwendige Haarflechtarbeit dauert pro Kopf ca. 2 bis 3 Arbeitstage. Anschliessend werden die Frisuren noch individuell mit traditionellen Massaischmuck ergänzt. Seit Anfang Jahr gab es auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Loiborsoit schon unzählige Hochzeiten und Familienfeste, bei denen die Jungkrieger voller Stolz ihre traditionellen Frisuren bei Tanz und Gesang präsentieren konnten. Alle die Feste haben vermutlich zusätzlich dazu beigetragen, dass es bei der Nyangulo-Alterklasse bezüglich Frisur weiterhin eine ungebrochen grosse Nachfrage gibt. Seitens Massaibevölkerung haben wir zudem immer wieder positive Rückmeldungen erhalten, dass man sehr erfreut darüber ist, wenn sich unser Verein neben den Schulbau- und Wasserprojekten auch bei Projekten zur Erhaltung der Massaikultur engagiert. Die letzten 2 Monate haben sich bereits weit über 50 Jungkrieger bei uns ihre Haare traditionell flechten lassen und es ist denkbar, dass wir die Massai-Frisöre noch gerne einige Wochen weiter beschäftigen werden können…

It is still very important for our association that appropriate attention is also given to the cultural promotion project. Already last year and especially from January 2024, there was an enormous demand from young warriors (Moranis) of the Nyangulo age group to have their hair braided according to the Maasai tradition. Due to the high demand, we temporarily employed two to three Maasai hairdressers at the ENKAINA-E-RETOTO headquarters in Loiborsoit, who were able to give the young warriors a corresponding hairstyle on site for a small fee. This complex hair braiding process takes approx. 2 to 3 working days per head. The hairstyles are then individually complemented with traditional Maasai jewelry. Since the beginning of the year there have been countless weddings and family celebrations in the municipality of Loiborsoit, where the young warriors were proud to present their traditional hairstyles while dancing and singing. All of the festivals have probably also contributed to the continued high demand for hairstyles among the Nyangulo age group. We have also repeatedly received positive feedback from the Maasai population that they are very pleased when our association is involved in projects to preserve Maasai culture in addition to school building and water projects. In the last 2 months, well over 50 young warriors have had their hair traditionally braided with us and it is conceivable that we will be able to keep the Maasai hairdressers busy for a few more weeks…
