Building materials provided for new cistern in Nyorrit

Seit Anfang November gab es in Loiborsoit und in vielen Teilen des Massailandes (Simanjiro-Distrikt) erfreulicherweise immer wieder grössere Niederschläge. Fast zeitgleich hatte unser Projektpartner Atlas Copco aus Belgien auch die vollumfängliche Unterstützung für den Bau der neuen Zisterne beim Brunnen in Nyorrit zugesichert. Die lokale Massaibevölkerung ist natürlich hoch erfreut darüber. Eine entsprechende Vereinbarung konnte unterzeichnet werden. Bereits vor Ende November konnten die ersten Baumaterialien wie Zementblocksteine, Armierungseisen usw. zum Bauplatz in Nyorrit transportiert werden. Dank kontinuierlicher Niederschläge und dementsprechender Wasserverfügbarkeit sind andererseits die idealen Voraussetzungen gegeben, um mit dem Bau der Zisterne zu beginnen. Anfang Dezember konnten Emanuel und sein Handwerker-Team im Beisein von Lengai S. und Markus H. von ENKAINA-E-RETOTO vor Ort nochmals den geeigneten Standort der Zisterne bestätigen und die geplante Legung aller notwendigen Wasserlei-tungen absprechen. Beim gewählten Standort für die Zisterne leistet die Massai-Bevölkerung eine wichtige Vorarbeit. Eine grössere Anzahl Männer haben nun täglich mehrere Stunden bei den Aushub-Arbeiten angepackt, damit das Fundament der Zisterne möglichst tief ins Erdreich gelegt werden kann. Wie erhofft ist man bereits auf einer Tiefe von 1.5 bis 2 Meter auf felsigen Untergrund gestossen. Dies sind ideale Voraussetzungen, um darauf ein stabiles Fundament zu errichten. Zwischenzeitlich ist es im Massailand saftig grün geworden. Ein Besucherteam von ENKAINA-E-RETOTO mit Lengai S., Markus H. und Magdalena M. sowie Daniel L. wurden kürzlich bei einer Projektbesichtigung von der Bevölkerung in Nyorrit herzlich willkommen geheissen. Wenn die Wasserverfügbarkeit weiterhin gegeben bleibt und auch weiteres Baumaterial planmässig transportiert werden kann, sollte die Zisterne bereits im März/April fertiggestellt werden können. Building materials provided for new cistern in Nyorrit
Fortunately there has been increasing rainfall in Loiborsoit and in many parts of Maasailand (Simanjiro district) since the beginning of November. Almost at the same time, our project partner Atlas Copco from Belgium also assured full support for the con-struction of the new cistern at the well in Nyorrit. The local Maasai population is of course delighted about this. A corresponding agreement could be signed. The first building ma-terials such as cement blocks, steel rebars, etc. were transported to the construction site before the end of November. On the other hand, thanks to continuous rainfall and the corresponding availability of water, ideal conditions exist to begin building the cistern. At the beginning of December, Emanuel and his team of craftsmen in the presence of Lengai S. and Markus H. from ENKAINA-E-RETOTO were able to confirm the suitable location of the cistern and coordinate the planned laying of all necessary water pipes. The Maasai population did important preparatory work when it came to the chosen location for the cistern. A large number of men worked on the excavation site for several hours every day so that the foundation could be laid as deep as possible in the ground. As hoped, rocky ground has already been encountered at a depth of 1.5 to 2 meters. These are ide-al conditions on which to build a stable foundation. In the meantime it has become lush green in the Masai country. During a project visit a team of visitors from ENKAINA-E-RETOTO with Lengai S., Markus H. and Magdalena M. as well as Daniel L. was recently warmly welcomed by the population in Nyorrit. If water availability continues and addi-tional building materials can be transported as planned, the cistern should be completed in March/April.
