We celebrate with our sponsored girls in Loiborsoit

Wenige Tage bevor in Tansania das neue Schuljahr an den Primar- und Sekundarschulen startet, konnten wir an diesem Wochenende unsere Patenmädchen, zum alljährlich stattfindenden Kinderfest am Hauptsitz von ENKAINA-E-RETOTO in Loiborsoit einladen. Im letzten Jahr wurden über 50 Massaimädchen durch eine Patenschaft bei ihrer Primar- und Sekundarschulausbildung unterstützt. Die Patenmädchen freuen sich jedes Jahr auf dieses Fest und werden dabei meist von einem Elternteil und manchmal auch von weiteren Geschwistern begleitet. Während dem Fest werden alle Gäste mit lecker zubereitetem Essen (Reis und Ziegenfleisch) sowie Gebäck und Sodagetränken versorgt. Zudem erhält jedes Kind auf der Primarstufe ein persönliches Geschenk mit nützlichen Alltags- und Hygieneartikeln. Damit während dem Fest vor allem auch genügend Zeit für die persönliche Befragung der einzelnen Patenkinder zur Verfügung steht, wurde das Fest aufgrund der gestiegenen Anzahl Patenkinder auf zwei aufeinanderfolgende Tage aufgeteilt. Am Samstag feierten wir mit jüngeren Mädchen der Primarstufe und anschliessend am Sonntag folgte ein weiteres Fest mit den erfahrungsgemäss zeitaufwendigeren Befragungen der über 30 Patenmädchen auf der Sekundarstufe und Uni. Erfreulicherweise haben auch dieses Jahr wieder fast alle Patenkinder der 7. Primarklasse den Übertritt auf die Sekundarstufe geschafft und es konnten entsprechende Ausbildungsplätze an nahegelegenen Sekundarschulen (mit Unterbringung im Internat) gefunden werden. Den erfolgreichen Schülerinnen möchten wir ganz herzlich dazu gratulieren. Zum Abschluss jedes Festtages gab es eine lustige Akrobatik-Show mit Landi Lengai und Dungu, bei der sich alle unsere Gäste herzhaft amüsieren konnten.
Da die Betreuung des Patenschaftprojektes gegen Ende Jahr mit den individuellen Briefen an die Patentanten und –onkeln oft einen immensen administrativen Aufwand für die ehrenamtlich tätigen Projektverantwortlichen bedeutet, müssen wir die Anzahl Patenschaften weiterhin auf 50 Mädchen pro Jahr beschränken. Zudem hatten wir es im vergangenen Jahr leider nicht geschafft, für alle neu ins Programm aufgenommenen Mädchen der Sekundarstufe entsprechende Patenschaften (mit Unterstützung von CHF 300.- pro Jahr) zu vermitteln. In diesem Jahr haben wir daher nur eine kleinere Anzahl Mädchen aus der 1. Primarklasse neu ins Programm aufgenommen. Für Mädchen auf der Primarstufe lassen sich bekanntlich leichter Patenschaften finden. Wie schon im letzten Jahr, gab es jedoch erneut einige Mädchen aus Loiborsoit, welche ebenfalls den Übertritt auf die Sekundarstufe schafften, deren Eltern ihnen jedoch aus finanziellen Gründen keine Sekundarschulbildung ermöglichen können. Solche Mädchen und Eltern möchten wir ausserhalb des Patenschaftprojektes dennoch unterstützen, indem wir aus allgemeinen Vereinsmitteln (ohne Vermittlung einer persönlichen Patenschaft) einen Teil der Ausbildungskosten (im Internat einer Sekundarschule) übernehmen werden. Wir hoffen, dass dies im Sinne unserer Vereinsmitglieder ist und dass wir aus allgemeinen Spenden weiterhin genügend finanzielle Mittel zur Verfügung haben werden. An dieser Stelle wollen wir uns im Namen der Patenmädchen und deren Eltern auch nochmals ganz herzlich bei all unseren Paten und Projektunterstützenden für die teilweise über etliche Jahre fortdauernde Unterstützung bedanken…
We celebrate with our sponsored girls in Loiborsoit
A few days before the new school year starts at primary and secondary schools in Tanza-nia, we were able to invite our sponsored girls to the annual children’s festival at the ENKAINA-E-RETOTO headquarters in Loiborsoit this weekend. Last year, over 50 Maasai girls were supported in their primary and secondary school education through sponsorship. The sponsored girls look forward to this festival every year and are usually accompanied by a parent and sometimes by other siblings. During the festival, all guests are provided with deliciously prepared food (rice and goat meat) as well as pastries and soda drinks. In addition, every child at primary level receives a personal gift containing useful everyday and hygiene items. In order to ensure that there is enough time during the celebration to personally interview the individual sponsored girls, the party was divided into two consecutive days due to the increased number of sponsored girls. On Saturday we celebrated with younger primary school girls and then on Sunday there was another party with, as experience has shown, more time-consuming surveys of the over 30 sponsored girls at secondary school and university. Fortunately, this year almost all of the sponsored children in the 7th primary class managed to transfer to secondary school and appropriate training places were found at nearby secondary boarding schools (with accommodation). We would like to warmly congratulate the successful students. At the end of each day there was a funny acrobatic show with Landi Lengai and Dungu, where all our guests had a great time.
Since organizing the sponsorship project towards the end of the year with writing indi-vidual letters to the sponsors often means an immense administrative effort for the vol-unteer project managers, we have to continue to limit the number of sponsorships to 50 girls per year. In addition, last year we unfortunately did not manage to arrange spon-sorships (with support of CHF 300 per year) for all of the secondary school girls who were newly accepted into the program. This year we have only included a smaller number of girls from the 1st primary class in the program. We known that it is easier to find sponsorships for girls at primary school level. There are several girls from Loiborsoit who managed to move on to secondary school. However, their parents are unable to provide them with secondary school education for financial reasons. We would still like to support such girls and parents outside of the sponsorship project by covering part of the training costs (at a secondary school boarding school) from general association funds (without ar-ranging personal sponsorship). We hope that this is in the interest of our club members and that we will continue to have sufficient financial resources available from general do-nations. At this point, on behalf of the sponsored girls and their parents, we would like to thank all of our sponsors and project supporters for their ongoing support, some of which have lasted for many years.
