Wegen der ungewöhnlich intensiven Trockenperiode im Januar und Februar musste mit der Sanierung des Brunnens in Nyorrit länger gewartet werden, als ursprünglich geplant. Während der Dürrezeit waren immerhin die meisten Naturstrassen ins Massailland passierbar geblieben. So konnte man indessen, ziemlich problemlos mit Lastwagen bereits erste grössere Mengen an Baumaterialien, wie Zement-Blocksteine, Armierungseisen usw. für die geplante Brunnensanierung sowie weitere 5000-Liter Wassertanks für Wasserprojekte zu diversen Schulen auf dem Gemeindegebiet von Loiborsoit transportieren. Gegen Ende März setzten dann endlich die sehnlichst erwarteten, grossen Niederschläge der Masika-Regenzeit in Nordtansania und dem Massailand ein. Diese Regenzeit dauert normalerweise von ca. Anfang März bis Ende Mai. Dank der Niederschläge konnte sich die Vegetation im ganzen Massailand allmählich erholen und die Viehherden der Massai können in der grün gewordenen Steppe wieder genügend Futter finden. Da es seit Anfang April nun fast täglich regnet, hatte sich bis Ende April auch für die Massaibevölkerung von Nyorrit, im nördlichen Gemeindegebiet von Loiborsoit, die zuvor sehr schwierig gewordene Situation zur Trinkwasserbeschaffung entspannt. Demnach wird die an den Brunnen angeschlossene Viehtränke momentan praktisch nicht benutzt. Dies ist also der ideale Zeitpunkt, um jetzt die Sanierung des Brunnens in Angriff zu nehmen. Bei der Sanierung soll das baufällige Pumphäuschen durch ein solides Gebäude aus Zementblocksteinen ersetzt und ein separates Brunnenwärterhaus mit Werkstatt dazu gebaut werden. Zu diesem Zweck muss die mit einem Diesel- bzw. Stromgenerator betriebene Wasserpumpe ausser Betrieb genommen werden. In diesem Zusammenhang sollen auch alle wegen dem stark mineralisierten Grundwasser, korrodierten Zuleitungen ersetzt und die Trinkwasserbezugsstation ebenfalls mit weiteren Wasserhahnen ausgebaut werden. Wenn alles problemlos läuft, gehen wir davon aus, dass die Sanierung des Brunnens bis Anfang oder Mitte Juni abgeschlossen werden kann. Dieser öffentliche Brunnen und deren Unterhalt und Sanierung ist für die gesamte Massaibevölkerung in Nyorrit enorm wichtig. Due to the unusually intense dry period in January and February, the renovation of the well in Nyorrit had to be postponed. This rainy season usually lasts from the beginning of March to the end of May. Thanks to the rainfall, the vegetation in the whole Maasailand was able to gradually recover and the Maasai herds of cattle can find enough food in the green steppe. Since it has been raining almost every day since the beginning of April, by the end of April the Maasai population of Nyorrit, in the northern municipality of Loiborsoit, had also been able to ease the situation of obtaining drinking water, which had previously become very difficult. Accordingly, the drinking trough connected to the well is currently not used. Therefor this is the ideal time to start cleaning up the well now. During the renovation, the dilapidated pump house is to be replaced by a solid building made of cement blocks and a separate well keeper’s house with a workshop is to be built. For this purpose, the water pump, which is powered by a diesel electricity generator, must be shut down. In this context, all the supply lines that are corroded due to the heavily mineralized groundwater are to be replaced and the drinking water supply station is also to be expanded with additional water taps. If everything goes smoothly, we assume that the renovation of the well can be completed by early or mid-June. This public well and its maintenance and rehabilitation is extremely important for the entire Maasai population in Nyorrit.
